On a warm Sunday in April 2007 I acquired about 1/3 of a full plot at my nearest Allotments, in Sketty.
2009
I still have Chard Bright Lights growing from last year, and Perpetual Spinach in the trough to the side of my plot. The Rhubarb is coming up well now, putting on lots of new growth. I will leave it alone for the whole year and start to pull stems next spring.
A fellow allotmenteer gave me some Jerusalem Artichoke tubers which I have yet to plant out; this will need to be doen soon in order to give them a good start in time for harvesting in winter. I have also acquired some Comfrey which will grow well in my clay soil and be a useful addition to the compost heap and future potato and bean trenches.
So far I have planted out Broad Beans (Aquadulce Claudia) which are quite winter hardy so they should be ready for harvesting in late May or June.
I have also dug in and weeded the remainder of my plot in readiness for planting out my Onion sets (Sturon), and some main crop Potatoes, Belle de Fontanay. I will also be growing potatoes at home in pots as before.
I have plans for peas, sweetcorn, radishes, and other vegetables, as well as making further progress in clearing/maintaining the adjoining woodland area.
