100 years of RSPB Cymru

(February 18, 2011)

100 years ago the Welsh division of RSPB was Mr and Mrs Jones, who looked after the roseate terns on the island of Llanddwyn.  Since then, RSPB Cymru has grown and grown but some campaigns are ever-relevant: farmland birds such as curlews are in huge decline, RSPB special sites are in dire need of investment and our children face living in a Wales with hardly any birdsong or wild places.

However, all is not lost as RSPB supportres like you have helped in the past and will continue to do so in the future, won't we?

This year, the RSPB is oviting everyone to celebrate it's Welsh Centenary by:

  • Having fun at one of our centenary events, which are being held across Wales throughout the year.
  • Joining our 'We love Wales' online group to share your memories, stories or photos of RSPB Cymru. Chat to other members and read our blog for updates on centenary news and events.
  • Whether you've got half an hour or three months to spare, give Welsh wildlife a boost by volunteering your time and skills.
  • Love nature or know someone who does? Join the RSPB or buy membership as a gift.
  • Enjoy a great day out at one of our beautiful nature reserves.
  • As pressures on the environment mount, support an RSPB campaign and give nature a voice.

Other activities this year are linked with GirlGuiding, an invitation to Take a Journey Through Time and you can also buy 10 different designs of special pin badges.
